Overview:
According to reports in ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that the matches will be rescheduled.
The Bangladesh women’s cricket team was scheduled to play in India, but the tour has been postponed due to political tensions between the two countries. The visiting team was supposed to play three ODIs and three T20Is, but the assignment will not go ahead.
The development came after the Dhaka tribunal gave the death penalty to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for committing crimes against humanity. According to reports in ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI has informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that the matches will be rescheduled.
The two boards haven’t revealed the reason, but the sources have confirmed that the political situation after Hasina’s conviction is the main reason behind the decision.
Hasina, who came to India after losing power, was tried by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal. Bangladesh has urged India for her extradition. India has expressed regret over the verdict and is ready to engage with the parties during the crisis.
For the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team, the cancellation of matches is not good. The series would have their first assignment after the World Cup victory.
Earlier, the tour of the Men in Blue was also postponed. It was set to feature three ODIs and three T20Is.
The BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) agreed to organise matches in 2026. Both boards mentioned that the decision was taken due to professional commitments and the convenience of scheduling.
However, the reports pointed towards Bangladesh’s political turmoil and security situation amid the unrest for the postponement.
