Ravichandran Smarna, the 22-year-old young batsman from Sunrisers Hyderabad and Karnataka, is currently dominating the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season. While playing for Karnataka, he has caught everyone’s attention by scoring his second double century in three matches. In the first innings of the match being played against Chandigarh in Hubli, Smaran scored unbeaten 227 runs on the second day on Monday (17 November).
His innings of 362 balls included 16 fours and 2 sixes, which put Karnataka in a strong position to declare the innings at 547/8 in two days. Earlier, Smaran had also scored unbeaten 220 runs in the match against Kerala, which is proof of his consistent form.
Talking about the match against Chandigarh, Karnataka had a bad start and the team was struggling losing three wickets for 64 runs. On such an occasion, Smaran along with Karun Nair took the team out by adding 119 runs for the fourth wicket. Nair was out on 95, but Smaran remained in his rhythm and returned after completing a double century.
At the same time, by the end of the second day’s play, Chandigarh had faltered at 72/4 in reply to Karnataka’s 547 runs in the first innings. Karnataka’s Shreyas Gopal, who had scored 62 runs in the first innings, also shone with the ball and took 3 wickets to put the opposition on the backfoot.
Talking about IPL, Smarn has been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 30 lakh before IPL 2026. He was also bought by SRH in the IPL 2025 mega auction at the same price. Although he has not been able to play a single match for Sunrisers Hyderabad yet, his consistent strong performances clearly show that he is not far away from that opportunity.
Additionally, Smarn has also played six domestic T20 matches, in which he has scored 170 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 170.
