Delhi: The pitch controversy is continuously in the headlines after India’s defeat in the first match of the two-match Test series against South Africa played in Kolkata. After the match ended in just three days, former cricketers and experts have raised questions on the quality of the pitch. Kolkata’s pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee became the biggest target of criticism.

Curator’s first statement

Amidst the continuous criticism, Sujan Mukherjee expressed his views in a conversation with Times Now Bangla. He said that the pitch was not bad in any way. He said, “I know people are raising questions on this pitch, but the truth is that I know very well how a Test match pitch is prepared. I did what the instructions were given. I don’t pay attention to what people say. Not everyone knows everything. I just do my work with full dedication and will continue to do so.”

Gautam Gambhir gave support

Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has also already come out in support of the pitch. He had clearly said that the team had demanded a similar pitch. According to Gambhir, the real reason for the defeat was not the pitch but the Indian batsmen’s inability to survive and score runs in difficult conditions.

Gambhir and curator’s picture became a topic of discussion

Amidst this controversy, a new picture of Gambhir and Sujan Mukherjee is going viral on social media. The two were seen talking and hugging each other during India’s training session. Laughter and joking between the two was also seen in the picture.
