New Zealand clinched the ODI series with a composed five-wicket victory over the West Indies in a rain-curtailed second match at McLean Park, Napier. The contest was reduced to 34 overs per side, but both teams still produced an entertaining, high-scoring clash.
Put in to bat, the West Indies found themselves in early trouble as Kyle Jamieson and Nathan Smith kept things tight with the new ball. Despite starts from John Campbell, Ackeem Auguste, and Keacy Carty, wickets fell at regular intervals, leaving the visitors tottering at 86 for 5.
From there, captain Shai Hope produced a masterclass. He crafted a stunning unbeaten 109 off just 69 balls, laced with 13 fours and four sixes, completing one of the finest centuries of his ODI career. Hope’s late partnerships with Romario Shepherd (22 off 14) and Matthew Forde (21 off 11) helped the West Indies post a competitive 247 for 9.
New Zealand’s chase began with authority as Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra stitched a fluent 106-run opening stand. Conway anchored the innings with a classy 90 off 84 deliveries, while Ravindra added an attacking 56 off 46, clearing the ropes five times.
A brief West Indian resurgence saw Will Young, Mark Chapman, and Conway fall in quick succession, but Tom Latham and Mitchell Santner steadied the chase. Santner’s 14-run burst in the 33rd over broke the back of the equation, and he finished the job amid Jayden Seales’ no-ball drama, securing victory with three balls to spare.
Jayden Seales, Roston Chase, Justin Greaves, and Shamar Springer picked up a wicket each, but the West Indies bowlers struggled to apply sustained pressure in the middle overs.
With this win, New Zealand sealed the three-match ODI series, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead.
