After Pant is given the command of the team in the Test to be played in Guwahati, he can also be given the captaincy of the ODI series against South Africa.
Shubman Gill's latest injury update is believed to be the reason behind this decision to make Pant the captain.Pant will be the captain in place of Gill who is out of the second test.
According to the report of RevSportz, Shubman Gill is not completely well yet. In such a situation, he was played in the Guwahati Test and if he gets injured again like in the Kolkata Test, then the situation may worsen. According to specialist opinion, it takes 5 to 7 days for a player to recover from a neck injury. At present it is certain that Gill will not play in the second test.

It is believed that Shubman Gill may be out of the ODI series after the second Test against South Africa.
