Key Points:

BCCI will soon announce the team for India vs South Africa ODI series. Shubman Gill may be out of both Test and ODI due to neck injury. In such a situation, a new captain will be chosen for the ODI team in which KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are the strongest contenders.

Delhi: The Test series between India and South Africa is going on and its last match will be played in Guwahati from 22nd November. After this, there will be a three-match ODI series, for which Team India can be announced soon. It is expected that BCCI will announce the team in two days.

Shubman Gill is currently the Test and ODI captain of India, but he suffered a neck injury in the first Test. Due to injury, he was out in the middle of the match. It is believed that Gill will not be able to play the second test also, although this has not been officially confirmed yet. BCCI does not want to take any risk regarding Gill and wants to give him time to become completely fit.

Who will become the captain in place of Shubman?

The team for the ODI series will be announced during the test series itself. It is believed that this announcement will be made by the evening of 23 November. There is a possibility that Gill may remain out of the ODI series also, because it is not considered right to bring him back soon. If this happens, BCCI will have to choose a new captain for the ODI team.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will remain in the team, but the chances of them getting captaincy again are less. Shreyas Iyer was the vice-captain in the last ODI series, but he is not available this time due to injury. In such a situation, two names are at the forefront for captaincy – KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. If Gill is out of the ODI series, then the responsibility of captaincy can be given to any one of them.
