Guwahati Test Pitch: Team India faces the challenge of saving the series after losing to South Africa in the Kolkata Test in just two and a half days. With a win in the second Test of the series in Guwahati, it has a chance to avoid the stain of series defeat. But South Africa pushed Team India on the backfoot in the first two days of play at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, which was witnessing Test cricket for the first time. Now, from what Team India's star spinner Kuldeep Yadav has said about the pitch of this stadium, Team India's hopes of victory seem to be diminishing.
Sunday, 23 November, was the second day of the Guwahati Test match and South Africa's first innings ended about 40 minutes before the end of the day's play. The South African team, which batted for almost two whole days, remained at the crease without any problem and scored 489 runs. The situation was such that number seven batsman Senyuran Muthusamy scored a brilliant century, while Marco Janson, who came at number nine, also played a explosive inning of 93 runs and took the team to this point.
By the end of the day's play, Team India had scored 9 runs without losing any wicket. In this way, the pitch of Guwahati proved to be completely opposite to the first Test match played in Kolkata. At Eden Gardens, where more than half of the third innings of the match was over within two days, only one inning could be played here. After the end of the day's play, star spinner Kuldeep Yadav said something about this pitch, which is not good news for the Indian team. Kuldeep described it as a complete road, in which there was nothing for the bowlers.
He said, "Kolkata's wicket was different. This (Guwahati) was absolutely road. That's why it is challenging and that is why it is called Test cricket."Kuldeep further said, "It is not important to dominate every time but how you make a comeback is also important. It was a difficult wicket for the bowlers because I did not feel that there was much help in it. Even for the fast bowlers, there was not much help in it but this is Test cricket and you should enjoy it, learn."
Kuldeep was the star bowler of Team India in the South African innings, who took maximum 4 wickets.
But the truth he stated does not give the Indian team any hope of victory. The thing is such that even on the second day there was no indication in the pitch that it was breaking from anywhere and the bowlers would get help. The same situation will continue on the third day also. In such a situation, to get ahead of South Africa, Team India will have to bat at least till the fourth day, so that it can make a big score. But looking at the way this pitch has behaved, it does not seem that the batsmen will face any kind of problem on the last day of the match or even in the third innings.
If this happens, then the chances of Team India's victory in this match will continue to decrease. It is also important to keep this aspect in mind that due to bad light on both the days of this test, many overs could not be played and about 20 overs were lost in two days. This situation will continue further and in such a situation the chances of the match being a draw will increase and due to this Team India will lose the series.
