In the high-pressure world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), emotions often run high, but only a few moments leave a lasting imprint on fans. One such incident resurfaced recently when Deepak Chahar shared a story involving MS Dhoni, revealing the fiery side of the usually calm CSK captain.

Chahar, who spent six seasons with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and also played under Dhoni at Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), recalled the moment during his appearance on Bigg Boss 19’s family week.

The incident took place during the IPL 2019 season in a match between CSK and Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Punjab were chasing 161 and needed 39 runs off the last 12 balls. The pressure was immense, and Dhoni entrusted the relatively inexperienced Chahar to deliver the crucial penultimate over.

What happened next was a nightmare start. Chahar opened the over with a waist-high no-ball that Sarfaraz Khan dispatched to the boundary. The very next delivery also turned out to be a no-ball, and Punjab added two more runs. Within two legal attempts, Chahar had already conceded eight runs without delivering a legitimate ball. The atmosphere in the stadium tightened, and Dhoni’s frustration was evident.

Chahar revealed that Dhoni marched up to him and, in anger, said, ‘Tu bewakoof nahi, main bewakoof hoon.' (You are not an idiot, I am). t was Dhoni’s way of taking responsibility for assigning the over, but the stern tone made Chahar feel as though his career was on the verge of collapse. He assumed he would never again be trusted with death overs.

Yet, instead of succumbing to the pressure, Chahar composed himself remarkably. Over the remaining deliveries, he conceded just five more runs and picked up the crucial wicket of David Miller. From a disastrous start, he salvaged the over, turning it into a momentum-shifting moment for CSK.

In total, the over cost 13 runs, far better than it initially threatened to be, and the wicket proved vital. CSK eventually won the match by 22 runs, and the episode became a reminder of both Dhoni’s leadership fire and Chahar’s resilience under pressure.
