Gautam Gambhir On Coaching Future PtiImage Credit source: PTI
Last year, New Zealand and now South Africa came to India and wiped out Team India in the Test series. In both these series, Team India has been defeated under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir and in such a situation, there is a demand for his removal. But Gambhir has made it clear that he will not take this decision himself but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Not only this, Gambhir also hit back by saying that the team had won the Champions Trophy during his tenure.
Team India, which had lost 0-3 to New Zealand, was now defeated 2-0 by South Africa. After losing by 30 runs in the Kolkata Test, Team India also faced a humiliating defeat of 408 runs in the Guwahati Test match. Under Gambhir, who became the coach of Team India in all three formats last year, this is the 5th defeat of the Indian team in 9 matches at home, whereas it has won only 4 matches, which came against weak teams like Bangladesh and West Indies.
After the defeat against South Africa, Gambhir came to the press conference, where he was asked many sharp questions. Gambhir held the entire team responsible for the defeat and said that it starts from them only. When he was asked about his future as a Test coach, Gambhir also defended his tenure by putting the responsibility on BCCI. Gambhir said, "It is the responsibility of BCCI to take this decision. I had said in my first press conference after becoming the coach that I am not important, Indian cricket is important. Don't forget that I am the same person who made the Test series draw in England, won the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup."
