Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets for their fourth win in the Indian Premier League 2024. The defending champions couldn’t put up a big score on the board after Sam Curran invited them to bat first. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 62, his strike rate of 129.16 shows his struggle in the middle.
Ajinkya Rahane, the veteran, faced 24 balls to score 29 runs.MS Dhoni, who has been blazing all guns, failed to hit the ball. He managed 14 runs off 11 delieveries at a strike rate of 127.27.
Former India player Irfan Pathan said that the team was let down by the batters. “Ajinkya Rahane missed out on a chance to score big. He is a good player of spin bowling but Harpreet Brar got better of him.
“Captain Ruturaj scored 62 but his runs came slowly. He should have tried to up the scoring rate. The strike rate of 129.16 didn’t help the team.
“MS Dhoni was unable to time the ball. He scored 14 runs off 11 balls. He was tied down by the Punjab bowlers,” Irfan Pathan said.
For Punjab, Jonny Bairstow (46) and Rile Rossouw (43) led the chase. The task was completed by Sam Curran (26 not out) and Shashank Singh (25 not out) in 17.5 overs.
Harpreet was named the Player of the Match for taking two wickets. Rahul Chahar also dismissed two batters as well.
