South African batsman Tony de Zorzi appeared visibly disappointed after falling short of a half-century, dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja on Day 4 of the second Test at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The wicket came on the first ball of South Africa’s 59th over in their second innings.
Jadeja pitched a good-length delivery on off stump, and de Zorzi attempted a sweep but missed, taking the ball on his pad. He opted for a review, but ball-tracking showed three reds, leaving the left-hander frustrated as he walked back to the pavilion.
The left-handed batsman was dismissed for 49 runs from 68 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six, leaving South Africa at 178 for 4 after 58.1 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja Claims 3 Wickets As South Africa Extend Lead Towards 500
South Africa started Day 4 at 26/0 after eight overs, with Aiden Markram on 12 and Ryan Rickelton on 13 at the crease. The openers added 59 runs before Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Rickelton for 35. Markram soon followed, falling for 29 to become Jadeja’s second wicket of the morning session.
Captain Temba Bavuma struggled once again, getting out cheaply for just 3 to Washington Sundar, leaving South Africa in a slightly precarious position temporarily. Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi then forged a crucial 101-run partnership for the fourth wicket, before Jadeja dismissed de Zorzi for 49, taking his third wicket of the innings and further denting the visitors’ momentum.
By the time of writing, South Africa were 208/4 in 68 overs, leading by 496 runs, with Stubbs unbeaten on 55 alongside Wiaan Mulder, who had contributed a steady 22. Earlier in the match, South Africa posted a massive 489 after electing to bat first, highlighted by Senuran Muthusamy’s brilliant 109.
In reply, India collapsed to just 201, with Marco Jansen taking six wickets, giving the visitors a dominant 288-run lead in the first innings and putting them firmly in control of the Test.
