The Punjab Cricket Association will immortalise India’s World Cup-winning players Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh with stands named after them at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium Stadium in Mullanpur.
The two new stands will be unveiled ahead of the fourth T20I between India and South Africa on December 11.
“Harmanpreet Kaur is being honored for her achievement in winning the World Cup, and we have announced that a proper stand will be named after her. On the 11th, during the India–South Africa match, we will inaugurate it. Along with that, the stand named after our former player and two-time World Cup champion Yuvraj Singh will also be inaugurated on the same day,” officiating Secretary of PCA, Siddhant Sharma told IANS.
Yuvraj was instrumental in India’s World Cup triumphs in the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup win in 2011. Harmanpreet’s iconic unbeaten 171 was the highlight of a charmed 2017 World Cup campaign for the women’s side that saw the side finish as runner-up, falling to England in the final by just nine runs. She led the nation to its first senior ICC trophy in the women’s vertical when she lifted the title at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai earlier this month.
The PCA has also said that it will hand over the already announced cash rewards for Punjab players Harmanpreet and Amanjot Kaur during the unveiling of the stands on December 11.
