When India played the first ODI in Raipur two years ago, Rohit Sharma was the top scorer in it. But, Rohit failed to repeat that story in the current ODI against South Africa. Rohit Sharma, who scored a half-century in the first ODI played in Ranchi, was limited to just 14 runs in the Raipur ODI. Nandre Berger made him his victim. However, he couldn't believe it for a moment in the way he got out. Even the field umpire found Rohit not out. South Africa appealed against the on-field umpire's decision, after which the third umpire's decision changed the game.
Rohit Sharma's wicket fell in the 5th over of the Indian innings. Nandre Berger was bowling this over for South Africa. Rohit Sharma hit consecutive fours on the first 3 balls of this burger over. After this the fourth ball was dotted. While Burger's 5th ball beat Rohit and went straight into the gloves of Quinton de Kock standing behind the wicket. De Kock appealed for out after catching the ball. Seeing De Kock appealing, Burger also appealed but did not show confidence in him. That appeal by South Africa had no effect on the field umpire. As a result he declared Rohit not out.
South African captain Temba Bavuma spoke to De Kock. From the conversation it seemed as if he was telling Bavuma that Rohit was out. In such a situation, Bavuma took DRS. The matter against the decision of the field umpire reached the third umpire, who after watching the video footage found that the ball took the light edge of Rohit's bat and reached De Kock's hands. The same was visible in the Snickometer also. As a result, the third umpire asked the field umpire to change his decision.
Rohit Sharma looked quite surprised after the third umpire's decision. Because, he was not sure that he was out. However, Rohit had to go to the pavilion with a heavy heart. Facing 8 balls, he scored 14 runs in the second ODI.
