ICC bans West Indies cricketer for five years

Devon Thomas, the 34-year-old West Indian wicketkeeper-batter, has been banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for five years. He was accused of breaching seven counts of the anti-corruption codes of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

He represented West Indies in 1 Test, 21 ODIs and 12 T20Is, with his last game coming in August 2022.

Alex Marshall, the ICC General Manager – Integrity Unit, said that Thomas accepted the charges laid down by the apex body. According to him, the player failed to follow the anti-corruption guidelines despite playing international cricket and domestic matches.

He was involved in match-fixing but refused to reveal the details. Thomas recieved gifts from the bookies but he kept the information secret despite being in touch with the ICC officials, who were investigating the matter.
