BCCI has selected Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as wicketkeeper batsmen in the World Cup squad. Apart from this, as Rinku Singh was not selected among the 15 players, people started criticizing the BCCI on social media. KL Rahul has scored 406 runs at an average of over 40 in 10 matches played so far in IPL 2024.

While Rinku Singh has batted at an average of 89 for the Indian team after making his debut for Team India last year.

Why was KL Rahul not selected?

Commenting on the non-selection of KL Rahul, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said, “KL Rahul is an excellent batsman, but we needed a batsman who can bat fast in the middle overs. Rahul is currently opening for his team in the IPL.

The decision was made based on the current vacancies in the team and we felt that Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson could handle the responsibility by batting fast in the middle order.

Why was Rinku Singh not selected?

About Rinku Singh, Agarkar said, “We had to think a lot about Rinku Singh and it was probably a very difficult decision for us. He has done nothing wrong and Shubman Gill has done nothing wrong. It is all based on the team combine.

Now we have 2 wrist spinners, so it can be called bad luck. Rinku has been placed in the reserves, he was very close to making it to the 15-man squad. In the end we could only select 15 players.”
