Pat Cummins was blunt in his response when he was asked to name the top four teams of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He took Australia’s name and urged the achor to pick other three. However, when she insisted him to pick the other three, he gave a straightforward answer. “Any three. Don’t care,” he said.
Pat Cummins, who had earlier led the T20I team of Australia, was not given the captaincy in the global tournament. Instead, the selectors went with Mitchell Marsh, who was Australia’s skipper against South Africa when Cummins was rested.
Australia won their only ICC T20 World Cup title in 2021 in the UAE. The Aaron Finch-led team thumped Pakistan in the final to lift their maiden trophy.
Cummins is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2024. He has done well as a captain of the Orange Army.
On the other hand, Marsh was with Delhi Capitals before he was ruled out midway due to an injury. Meanwhile, Australia have dropped Steve Smith from the T20I team, signalling the end of his career.
Australia squad: Mitch Marsh (captain), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matt Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
