There is not much time left for the new year to start and Indian cricket fans are waiting for the return of Team India in 2026. This wait will end on January 11, when the ODI series between India and New Zealand will begin. After this series, T20 matches will also be played for both the teams. Now the team for the T20 series has been announced but only 14 days are left for the start of the ODI series and the selection has not been done yet.
But this work will also be done in the first week of the new year, when Team India will be announced on 3rd or 4th January. This will be Team India's last series before the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka. In this, the importance of ODI series is less at present but due to some reasons this will also be special. Actually, Team India has played ODI series against Australia and South Africa in the last 2 months, in which the performance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has been seen. In such a situation, the fans want to see them again as soon as possible because both these greats are not part of the T20 team.
According to a report in Times of India, the Senior Selection Committee of BCCI can announce the squad for the ODI series on Saturday 3 January or Sunday 4 January. According to the report, this time the meeting of the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar will not be held at the BCCI headquarters but online. It is clear from this that instead of announcing the team in the press conference this time like the announcement of the team for the T20 World Cup, the team will be revealed on BCCI's social media account and website.
Although this time also the selection of Virat and Rohit is certain, but there will be curiosity about whether the selectors take any surprising decision or not.
Most eyes will be on the selection of star batsman and recently appointed vice-captain of the team, Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was injured while fielding on the Australia tour and since then he has been away from cricket action. Recently, he practiced batting for the first time after two months and these days he is in BCCI's Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
