The fourth season of the Women’s Premier League begins on January 9 in Navi Mumbai, with defending champion Mumbai Indians opening against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

After three record-setting editions that reshaped India’s women’s T20 landscape, WPL 2026 arrives with fresh benchmarks in sight.

Two players have come within touching distance of a WPL century. Sophie Devine was dismissed on 99, while Georgia Voll remained unbeaten on 99. Six others have crossed 90 in previous seasons. With a surge in T20 International centuries over the past year, the league now feels closer than ever to its first three-figure score.

The 2025 WPL season produced five 200-plus totals, achieved by four of the five teams.

UP Warriorz was the last to join the club, doing so emphatically with a record-setting 225. With squads refreshed and a T20 World Cup looming, the coming season will test how far teams are willing to push the power game.

The 2025 season produced one of the closest Purple Cap races, with Mumbai Indians teammates Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews finishing level on 18 wickets, Kerr edging ahead to claim the award, thanks to a better economy rate. With a new season bringing renewed focus and preparation, a more aggressive wicket-hunting mindset could yet push the benchmark towards a 20-wicket campaign.

Sophia Dunkley was the sole record holder for the fastest fifty when she brought up her half-century in 18 balls in 2023. Last year, the explosive Chinelle Henry matched her mark with a whirlwind knock. Boundary-hitting and power-packed performances have received additional focus of late, and WPL could witness a faster fifty.

Another season, another hat-trick

One unusual constant across the WPL’s first three seasons has been a hat-trick every year. Issy Wong, Deepti Sharma and Grace Harris have each achieved the rare feat of three consecutive wickets, and the league enters its fourth season with that streak intact and waiting to be tested again.
