The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is ready to return in style, with the fourth edition set to begin with a glitzy opening ceremony that blends top-tier cricket with full-blown Bollywood glamour.
As defending champions Mumbai Indians face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season opener, all eyes will be on the curtain-raiser at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium.
When and where to watch
The WPL 2026 opening ceremony will take place on Friday, January 9, at the DY Patil Stadium. While the opening clash between MI and RCB gets underway at 7:30 PM IST, the entertainment extravaganza is expected to begin around 6:30 PM IST.
Fans can watch the ceremony live on the Star Sports Network, with streaming available on JioCinema.
Star-studded spectacle
The BCCI has lined up big names to set the mood for the season. Rap icon Yo Yo Honey Singh and Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandez will headline the show, promising a high-energy start to the tournament.
Jacqueline’s performance is expected to celebrate the confidence and courage of women in sport, while Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu will also make a special appearance, adding further glamour to the night.
