In order to stay alive in the competition, DC must win their next three games, but head coach Ricky Ponting is upbeat, stating that if the squad play at their best for the full forty overs, they’ll be a dangerous unit.
Throughout the current IPL season, DC has been inconsistent, winning five games and losing six in their 11 games. Although winning their next three games is crucial for DC, it will only get them to 16 points, which might not be enough to get them into the top four.
In addition, KKR (16 points from 11 games) and RR (16 points from 10 games), a number of other teams have the ability to score more than 16 points, such as CSK (12 points from 11), SRH (12 points from 11 games), and LSG (12 points from 11 games).
“We didn’t play our best against Kolkata , but we’re back in Delhi now. Here, we’ve won two of our last three games,” Ponting stated prior to their game against RR.
Although we are up against a solid Rajasthan team, but if we play at our best for 40 overs, we can be force to reckon with. We’re confident that we can defeat anyone regardless of the opposition and the ground,” Ponting continued.
“We are monitoring everything. We now find ourselves in a situation where winning our next three games will probably be necessary to qualify. Despite our poor start, we are particularly proud of the boys during the last six to seven games,” he further added.
In addition, The DC head coach addressed questions on the fitness of experienced pacer Ishant Sharma and David Warner, stating that they are available for selection on Tuesday.
“Yesterday, they both trained. Ishant has actually been training for the past three days. It’s unlikely that he’ll bowl today. Based on his bowling performance over the past few days, we’re fairly satisfied. He is currently eligible for selection. David Warner took some time off. Yesterday, he spent around twenty minutes batting in the nets. Today he will take his last laps. He’s still not quite fit, but based on yesterday’s observations,” he concluded.
