Shamar Springer Hat Tricke Wi Vs Afg

An example of how a player can single-handedly turn a match was seen in the T20 match between West Indies and Afghanistan. In the third match of this series being played between the two countries in UAE just before the T20 World Cup 2026, West Indies defeated Afghanistan by scoring only 151 runs. The star of their victory was bowling-all-rounder Shamar Springer, who stopped Afghanistan from reaching the target by taking a hat-trick and led the team to victory by 15 runs. But even before the hat-trick, Springer made the biggest contribution to the victory by causing damage to Bangladesh with his batting and fielding.

In this match played in Dubai on Thursday 22 January, West Indies saved itself from a clean sweep by winning. Springer's hat-trick played an important role in this. In response to the target of 152 runs set by West Indies, Afghanistan made a strong start with 72 runs in 10 overs. But Matthew Ford broke this partnership by dismissing Ibrahim Zadran. After this, runs were restricted and wickets also started falling. It was Springer who took the catch of Zadran.

Shortly after this, Springer gave a second blow to Afghanistan by dismissing Sediqullah Atal and then gave a big blow to Afghanistan's hopes of comeback by taking the catch of explosive batsman Mohammad Nabi.

Springer, who had done wonders by taking one wicket and 2 catches, delivered the real punch in the 19th over. Afghanistan needed 25 runs in 2 overs but Springer scored a hat-trick by taking 3 wickets in the first 3 balls of this over.

This medium pacer took the biggest wicket by dismissing set batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz and then did not even allow Rashid Khan and Shahidullah to open the account.

Ultimately the Afghan team could reach only 136 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. This was the second consecutive hat-trick in this series. In the last match itself, Afghan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman had also done this feat. West Indies won the match by 15 runs but the series went to Afghanistan 2-1.

Earlier, while batting, West Indies scored 151 runs losing 7 wickets on the basis of captain Brandon King's inning of 47 runs. West Indies' middle order had failed miserably against Afghanistan's spin attack. However, in the lower order, Matthew Ford and Springer scored a quick 29 runs in the next 14 balls.

In this too, Springer scored 16 runs in 9 balls, hitting 3 fours. Whereas Ford, who was already attacking, scored 27 runs in 11 balls.
