Sanju Samson was clearly not out but the third umpire made a blunder despite using technology in the DC vs RR IPL 2024 match, according to Navjot Singh Sidhu. The right-handed batter was on 84 when he hit a lofted shot towards the long on area. However, the timing was not right and the ball was caught by Shai Hope near the boundary rope. The fielder couldn’t balance himself and it appeared that he touched the rope.
The on-field umpires were not sure and the third umpire was brought in to play. After checking replays for a few seconds, he declared Sanju Samson out, leaving Rajasthan and the commentators in shock. The third official was accused of not checking the replays from different angles despite having technology by his side.
Former India player Navjot Singh Sidhu hit out at the umpire. “Sanju Samson was not out as the fielder touched the rope twice. The third umpire should have seen it from different angles. Stop using technology if you can’t make proper use of it.
“Sanju Samson’s decision changed the game. There could be difference of opinion but if you check the replays from the side on angle, the foot touched the boundary rope twice,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.
Rajasthan couldn’t recover from the departure of their captain and lost the game by 20 runs while chasing 222.
