A big news related to Indian cricket is coming in the midst of IPL 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started searching for the new coach of Team India and it may soon issue an advertisement for this. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed this news in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The BCCI secretary said, “Rahul's tenure is only till June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so.” Other members of the coaching staff, such as batting, bowling and fielding coaches, will be selected after consultation with the new coach. Shah did not rule out the possibility of a foreign coach and left the issue open.

He said, “We cannot decide whether the new coach will be an Indian or a foreigner. It will depend on the CAC and we are a global organisation. This decision will also be taken by the CAC. Many like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant will be available in all formats. Players are there. Moreover, there is no precedent for such a situation in India.”

He also indicated that the board is unlikely to consider different coaches for different formats. This system has been adopted by boards like the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and even the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Shah confirmed that the new coach will be appointed for a long term and will serve for an initial period of three years.

Not only this, Shah also talked about the Impact Player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and said that it is not necessary that this rule continues in the coming seasons also. He stressed, “The Impact Player rule was a test case. Two new Indian players are getting a chance in the IPL. We will discuss with the stakeholders – franchises and broadcasters – before deciding on the continuation of the Impact Player. These will be permanent. No, but no one has reacted against the rule.”
