Former Aussie all-rounder Tom Moody thinks Virat Kohli has his limitations, but the batter has made up for them with his training. With his slog-sweep, Kohli has managed to take on the spinners in the middle overs. On Thursday, the 35-year-old, took PBKS bowlers to the cleaners with his 47-ball 92, and then ran-out Shashank Singh with a brilliant direct throw from deep mid-wicket.

“It’s amazing that he may not be the same 21 year old Virat Kohli, but he is in his thirties and he has just been exemplary on the field,” remarked Moody on Star Sports.

“It’s not a simple task to run in from the deep, throw yourself on the ground, and then make an accurate throw from that position. Yes, that is something we have definitely considered. It really is spectacular,” he added.

After 12 IPL 2024 games, Kohli has accumulated 634 runs at an average of 70.44, with CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in second position with 541 runs in 11 games. Stressing that despite his age, he still has agility and contributes with the bat.

“He has not only performed as a fielder but also as a batsman, knocking in 92 runs and spending a lot of time in the middle. He always runs around the pitch like no one else, even if it’s physically exhausting. He was still able to show concentration, energy, stamina, and agility needed to pull off a run-out of that caliber in the second innings,” claimed Moody.

“From the post match interview we’ve seen how he improved to manage his preparation for a competition like this. He is aware that he can’t train as hard or hit as many balls as he once could, but he continues to progress. He strives to raise his level. We discuss the slog sweep and how he has used it to counter spin. Wasn’t a very useful tool for him in those middle overs,” Moody commented.
