Delhi: New Zealand cricket team's star batsman Colin Munro has announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday. Munro, an expert in white-ball cricket, has played for the Kiwi team in the last two T20 World Cups. Munro was hoping to return to the New Zealand team for the ICC T20 World Cup to be played in the United States of America and West Indies next month.

However, the 37-year-old cricketer missed out on making a comeback to the New Zealand team and decided to retire. The left-handed batsman has played more than 100 matches for New Zealand. He played the only test match for his country in 2013 against South Africa. However, in white ball cricket he has scored three centuries and 19 half-centuries. Munro is one of only seven male players to score three or more T20I centuries.

The former opening batsman played for New Zealand in the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups and was a key member of the Kiwi team. Additionally, he was also a part of the team that reached the thrilling ICC Men's ODI World Cup final against England in 2019. Meanwhile, Munro continues to play franchise cricket around the world.

Colin Munro gave a big statement after retiring from international cricket

Colin said, “Playing for the Black Caps has always been the biggest achievement of my sporting career. “Nothing makes me more proud than wearing that jersey and the fact that I was able to represent it 123 times across all formats is something I will always be proud of.”

He further said, “Even though it has been a long time since my last match, I have continued my excellent T20 form for my team. “It is the right time to officially end my international cricket career with the announcement of the Kiwi squad for the T20 World Cup.”
