The ODI series in Australia did not prove to be good for the Indian women's team, which became world champion for the first time. The Indian team, playing its first ODI series after winning the World Cup last year, had to face its second consecutive defeat at the hands of Australia.
In the second match of the series played in Hobart, host Australia achieved the target of 252 runs in 83 balls on the basis of a explosive century by 22-year-old batsman Georgia Wall and a blazing innings by Phoebe Litchfield and won by 5 wickets. After winning the ODI World Cup in November 2025, Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, had won two consecutive T20 series, one of which came during the current Australia tour. But this was its first series in the ODI format, where the same Australian team, which it had defeated in the semi-finals of the World Cup, won the series by winning 2 consecutive matches.
In the second match of the ODI series played in Hobart on Friday, 27 February, the Indian team batted first and once again the batsmen disappointed. Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal gave a good start this time and gave an excellent start of 78 runs. During this period, Pratika also completed her half-century. But soon 3 wickets fell for 100 runs. From here, all the responsibility fell on captain Harmanpreet Kaur but she did not get long support from any batsman from the other end. The 55-run partnership between Harmanpreet and Kashvi Gautam improved the situation a bit but still Team India could reach only 251 runs.
Australian captain Alyssa Healy, who was playing the last series of her career, once again got out early but Team India did not get the benefit of this. Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Wall together made a partnership of 119 runs and dashed India's hopes of a comeback. Lichfield missed the century but Wall accomplished the task and scored a brilliant century in just 80 balls. However, here Team India took 3 wickets in quick succession but by then it was too late and Australia won the match as well as the series by 5 wickets in just 36.1 overs.
The third and last match of this series will be played in Hobart on March 1.
