The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalized Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill after his team’s 35-run win over Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. He has been fined INR 24 lakh for the franchise’s second slow over-rate offence in the Indian Premier League 2024. The hosts couldn’t complete the 20 overs in time in the contest against CSK in Ahmedabad. With the current offence behind the second one in the 17th season, Gill could be suspended for one game if the over rate is not maintained in one more match.

The rest of the players, including the Impact Player, were fined INR 25 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees.

Gujarat had a good day at the office, apart from the penalty. Gill (104) and Sai Sudharsan (103) slammed hundreds to take the team’s total to 231/3 in 20 overs,

Chennai were in trouble from the start and lost three wickets with just 11 runs on the board. However, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali hit fifties to stage a comeback for the defending champions. It was short-lived, as the two departed soon after completing the personal milestones. The visitors failed to recover from the setbacks and were restricted to 191/8 in 20 overs. CSK have 12 points from 12 games and needs to win the remaining contests to qualify for the playoffs.

On the other hand, GT have 10 points from 12 matches, and victories in their remaining two encounters could open the next round gates for them if the results of other franchises go their way.
