The Board of Control for Cricket in India has suspended Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant for the franchise’s third slow over-rate offence. DC failed to complete the overs in the allotted time frame against Rajasthan Royals. Pant has been fined INR 30 lakh from his match fees.
The rest of the Delhi players part of that game against Rajasthan, including the Impact Player, were fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
He will miss the next contest against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 12 in the 17th season. His suspension will impact Delhi’s playoff chances as the franchise needs to win the remaining two matches to stand a chance to play in the next round. He has been one of their best performers in the ongoing season.
DC filed an appeal against the verdict of the match referee. The appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman, who conducted a virtual hearing and decided to rule against the franchise and its skipper.
The southpaw has already been fined INR 12 lakh and INR 24 lakh for the first two slow over rate offences.
The first violation happened during the DC vs CSK match in Vizag. Pant was fined INR 12 lakh.
The second offence occurred against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
