Delhi: Delhi Capitals captain and star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been banned for one match for violating the code of conduct of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Not only this, a fine of Rs 30 lakh has also been imposed on him. IPL announced this in a press release on Saturday. The suspension means that Pant will not be able to play the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday.
It is known that his team maintained a slow over rate during the 56th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on 07 May.
What has been said in the statement issued by IPL?
The IPL side said, “Since this was Rishabh Pant's team's third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined Rs 30 lakh and suspended for one match.” Was suspended for. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, were individually fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees (whichever is less).
The statement further read, “In accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the decision of the match referee. Subsequently, the appeal was sent to the BCCI Ombudsman for review. The Ombudsman conducted a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee's decision is final and binding.”

What are the rules?
According to the code of conduct related to slow over rate of IPL, if the captain of a team commits the offense for the first time, then he is fined Rs 12 lakh. If the same captain makes the mistake for the second time in the same season, then a fine of Rs 24 lakh is imposed and if the same mistake happens for the third time, then the captain is banned for one match.
