Gujarat Titans defeated Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs in Ahmedabad on Friday, handling CSK their sixth loss of the season. The hosts defeated the Super Kings by restricting them to 196/8 after Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan struck hundreds to post 231/3. This victory was crucial for the Titans to their playoff hopes alive.
The CSK openers could not get going and were dismissed early with just 2 runs on the board. CSK’s top batter this season Ruturaj Gaikwad also failed to make an impression and departed for a duck. The reigning champs were reeling at 10/3 after the dismissal.
However, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali provided resistance and stitched a 109 run stand. They both fell victim to Mohit Sharma who went to pick the wicket of Shivam Dube as well. Spinner Rashid Khan also picked up 2 wickets.
Then MS Dhoni promoted himself in the batting order and hit three sixes. Although his innings get the crowd going, CSK were unable to win the game.
After CSK’s loss, Virender Sehwag spoke about Dhoni’s batting position, saying that the argument about his spot should end. Sehwag insisted that Dhoni shouldn’t be batting this low given his form, even if he acknowledged that CSK know the best about their players.
“The discussion about MS Dhoni’s batting position needs to come to an end. He’s clear on his intentions. However, given his current form and batting average, you need the other batters to perform on par with him if you hope to win the game. It seemed as though Ali and Mitchell couldn’t compete with Sudharsan and Gill. They needed a centurion. To reach the target, Jadeja and Dube needed to score a 20-ball fifty,” opined Sehwag.
“I want to end the argument on Dhon’s batting position. It’s okay wherever he bats. Who cares if they win or lose? He just made the crowd happy,” he added.
