Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has hit out at Rohit Sharma, blaming the star player for booing of Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. Hardik, who replaced Rohit as captain, was subjected to taunts by the fans. They were unhappy with Sharma’s sacking and lambasted the all-rounder.

Finch said Rohit should have spoken in favour of Hardik publicly to stop the crowd from heckling him. The consequences of fans anger were terrible for Hardik and even MI failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Speaking on the Around the Wicket Podcast, Finch felt Rohit had the power to save his captain.

“I wanted to see Rohit coming forward to help Hardik, who was at the receiving end. The anger against him was unbelievable. Rohit should have come out publicly in favour of the under fire Hardik. Rohit’s support would have brought things to normal,” Aaron Finch said.

“Fans started cheering for Hardik the moment he was named in Team India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, he had to go through a lot in the first eight games of the season,” he added.

Hardik failed to perform for the five-time champions. His batting and bowling took a hit.
