Rovman Powell became the first West Indian batter to hit 150 sixes in T20 internationals on Sunday (March 1). The middle-order batter smacked two maximums in his crucial innings of 34 (19) against India in the Super-Eight match of the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup, going past Nicholas Pooran’s record of 149.
Pooran, the former captain who retired last year, took 97 innings for it, while Powell has taken only six more to beat it. Powell is only the seventh batter overall to reach the 150 sixes milestone. The list is led by Rohit Sharma (205 sixes), with UAE’s Muhammad Waseem (193) and Suryakumar Yadav (177) also in the top three.
“It’s a good record," Powell said in the mid-innings break, where his unbeaten innings took West Indies to 195/4 at the Eden Gardens.
“Goes to show the longevity, hard work and dedication I’ve shown for the West Indies in the last few years," he added.
