Gary Kirsten: Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten will now be the head coach of Sri Lanka. Gary Kirsten has also coached Team India. It was under his coaching that the Indian cricket team won the 2011 ODI World Cup. Gary Kirsten will replace Sanath Jayasuriya as the head coach of Sri Lanka, Sanath Jayasuriya had left the coaching of Sri Lanka after the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka Cricket Board said that Gary Kirsten will take charge from 15 April 2026.

Gary Kirsten's contract with Sri Lanka cricket team is for 2 years. Meaning, he will remain in his post till April 2028. This means that the Sri Lankan team will be seen under the coaching of Gary Garston while gearing up for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Kirsten was associated with Namibia's team in T20 WC 2026

The Sri Lankan team was out of the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026.

After that poor performance of the team, Sanath Jayasuriya resigned from his post. Gary Kirsten was associated with Namibia's team in T20 World Cup 2026. He was the consultant of that team.
