Kolkata: Varun Chakravarthy was the star for the Kolkata Knight Riders who beat the Mumbai Indians by by 18 runs in a 16-over game on Saturday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The mystery spinner when on to pick up two wickets in the middle phase but also ensure he is economical. Chakravarthy conceded merely 17 runs in his quota of four overs. Following the KKR win, Chakravarthy was awarded the Player of the Match. At the presentation, he went on to reveal the plan against Rohit Sharma and how it worked. Chakravarthy claimed that the idea was to make Rohit hit across the line.
“The plan was to make him (Rohit) hit across the line, obviously there was help from the wicket and I was able to use it to my advantage,” Chakravarthy said at the post-match presentation.
“Tactically we (talking about Narine) are similar, but technically we are slightly different. The wickets were too flat initially, my bowling has been same from the first match and it is just that the results are showing up now,” Chakravarthy said after the win.
Batting first, KKR rode on Venkatesh Iyer’s 42 to post 157/7 in a 16-over-a-side game which started late due to rain. In reply, Mumbai Indians could only manage 139/8 despite a fine start in the powerplay. This was KKR’s ninth win with two more games to go.
With two games still to go, the KKR side would like to keep the momentum going heading into the playoffs. The Knights will now play the Titans on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
