Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in the Indian Premier League 2024. Despite Mumbai scoring 59/0 in five overs, the visitors couldn’t chase down 158 in 16 overs. It was a strange match as the Hardik Pandya-led franchise was in control of the proceedings but allowed KKR to stage a comeback.
Former India player Virender Sehwag was surprised to see the way MI batters Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav handled Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy.
Rohit, who is having a below-par season, managed 19 runs off 24 deliveries. On the other hand, SKY amassed 11 off 14 balls. Mumbai captain Hardik scored 2 runs.
Sehwag was not pleased with Rohit, who paid the price for trying to be aggressive against Varun.
“You should be more careful if someone is bowling well. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav could have won the game for Mumbai in 15 overs if the two had stayed in the middle. Vaibhav Arora, Mitchell Starc, Andre Russell and Harshit Rana had to bowl and if the two batters had played out the spinners without losing a wicket, the game would have gone in Mumbai’s favour,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
“You can’t bat with the ego. Play the good bowlers out. Naman Dhir hit two sixes and a four on Andre Russell’s bowling in the death overs. SKY and Rohit would have smashed five balls for boundaries.
“You could be Rohit or Suryakumar but atleast respect the delivery if you can’t respect the bowler. The ball on which Rohit got out wasn’t a weak ball. Rohit and SKY are great players but that doesn’t mean that you can hit the good deliveries,” he added.
Rohit Sharma has had a poor run in the previous few matches. Since he scored a century against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings last month, Rohit has failed to go big.
