Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians by 18 runs to register their ninth win in the Indian Premier League 2024. The two-time champions have qualified for the playoffs.

However, the outing turned sour for Kolkata player Ramandeep Singh, who was fined 20 percent of his match fees by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was accused of breaking the IPL code of conduct against Mumbai at the Eden Gardens.

Ramandeep accepted the charges laid down by the match referee. The decision of the official is final and binding in case of the level 1 offence. Singh’s wrong act was not revealed by the authorities.

He scored 17 not out off 8 balls, with the help of 1 six and 1 four as KKR dominated the Hardik Pandya-led team.

The Knight Riders posted 157/7 with Venkatesh Iyer (42) and Nitish Rana (31) playing good knocks. For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla took two wickets each, respectively.

Ishan Kishan (40) and Rohit Sharma (19) added 65 runs in 6.5 overs but the departure of the former put Mumbai on the backfoot. The scorecard pressure and fall of regular wickets restricted the visiting team to 139/8.

Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell and Harshit Rana dismissed two batters each, respectively.
