Sunil Narine had an off day with the bat in match number 60 of the Indian Premier League 2024 season on Saturday at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The Kolkata Knight Riders supremo was bamboozled by Jasprit Bumrah for a first-ball duck after KKR were asked to bat by Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya in a rain-curtailed contest. Narine had no clue how to respond to a Bumrah Yorker as he lost his stumps.
This means that Narine now owns the most ducks in T20 cricket.
The veteran all-rounder, who has been top-notch with bat and ball this season in the IPL, recorded his 44th duck in the 20-over format. He went past England’s Alex Hales in this regard.
Narine did make amends with the ball after that, managing 1/21 from three overs. KKR went on to hand MI an 18-run defeat to qualify for the playoffs. The match saw him register two more records. He became the third player with 400-plus runs and 15-plus wickets in an IPL season after Shane Watson and Jacques Kallis. Narine also raced to 550 T20 wickets, becoming the third player to do so after Dwayne Bravo and Rashid Khan.

Sunil Narine – 44 ducks
As per ESPNcricinfoNarine owns 44 ducks with the bat from 510 matches (325 innings). The southpaw has mustered 4195 runs with the willow. He owns one century and 17 fifties. His average reads 15.83. He has 262 sixes and 395 fours. Notably, Narine now has 16 ducks in the IPL. He matched Piyush Chawla’s tally. Only Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell are ahead (17 each). With the ball, Narine has claimed 550 scalps at 21.45. His economy rate is 6.12. In the IPL, he has claimed 178 scalps for the Knights in addition to scoring 1554 runs at 17.12.
Alex Hales – 43 ducks
England’s top scorer in T20 cricket, Alex Hales, has posted a total of 43 ducks in the format. Hales has played 449 T20 matches (446 innings). For England, Hales clocked five ducks from 75 innings. Hales, who has been a veteran in the Big Bash League, owns the joint-highest ducks (10) from 78 innings. Hales is a boundary-hitter and is closing in on 500 sixes. A sturdy T20 veteran, Hales owns 494 maximums. He has scored 12319 runs at 29.68. He has 78 fifties and six tons in 20 overs cricket.
Rashid Khan – 42 ducks
Afghanistan spin sensation Rashid Khan is one of the lethal forces in T20s. Rashid, who owns the second-highest number of wickets in T20s, is the third player after Narine and Hales with 40-plus ducks. Rashid has 42 ducks under his belt. Rashid is no mug with the bat. He is known for his explosive shot-making. Having played 425 matches (249 innings), Rashid owns 2206 runs at 13.20. He has clobbered two fifties. Notably, 15 of his ducks have come in the IPL from 60 innings. For Afghanistan, Rashid has posted a total of seven ducks. With the ball, Rashid has scalped 574 wickets at 18.44. 149 of his wickets have come in the IPL.
Paul Stirling – 32 ducks
Ireland ace Paul Stirling has managed to record a total of 32 ducks in T20s. The top-order batter from Ireland has played 348 T20 matches and owns 8390 runs at 25.5. He owns 54 fifties and three hundreds. Stirling, who is Ireland’s top scorer with 3500-plus runs, has registered 13 ducks for the side. It’s the most by an Irish batter in T20Is. Notably, Stirling is Ireland’s most-capped player and has over 100-plus sixes.
Glenn Maxwell – 31 ducks
Australian powerhouse Glenn Maxwell is a celebrated cricketer. However, the critical all-rounder has his share of unwanted feats. Maxwell owns 31 ducks in T20s – the most by an Australian batter. He has played 430 matches (407 innings), scoring 9687 runs at 27.67. 52 fifties and seven hundred have been hit from Maxwell’s bat. In the IPL, Maxwell has 17 ducks from 127 innings. He has scored 2700-plus runs in the cash-rich league and owns over 150 sixes. Maxwell, who is Australia’s 3rd-highest scorer, has three ducks in T20Is.
Jason Roy – 31 ducks
Englishman Jason Roy is one of the fiercest T20 batters. Roy has made his presence felt across several T20 leagues around the world. He was last seen in the Pakistan Super League when he decided to skip the IPL for personal reasons. Roy has 31 ducks from 356 matches. He owns 9177 runs at 27.39 with the help of 60 fifties and six tons. Across 64 T20I innings for England, Roy has clocked seven ducks. He managed over 1500 runs for England. Roy, who has over 1200 runs in the Pakistan Super League, owns three ducks in the tourney.
Chris Gayle – 30 ducks
Chris Gayle, who owns the record for most runs, centuries and sixes In T20 history, managed to register a total of 30 ducks in his majestic career. In 463 matches, Gayle went on to score 14562 runs at 36.22. He went on to smash 22 centuries and 88 half-centuries. He also managed 1056 sixes. Gayle posted eight ducks in the IPL. He registered a total of 4965 runs from 142 matches. Gayle also holds the record for most sixes in IPL history (357). Notably, 1899 of his runs came in T20Is for West Indies. Gayle, who remains WI’s top scorer in T20Is, clocked four ducks across 75 innings.
