Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have taken a significant step in honouring their legacy by launching a Hall of Fame for the first time, with Suresh Raina and Matthew Hayden named as its inaugural inductees. The announcement was made during the Roar’26 fan event at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 22, adding a new dimension to the franchise’s tradition of celebrating its heroes.
Suresh Raina is closely associated with the five-time champions. Known to fans as “Chinna Thala,” he was a mainstay of the team from 2008 to 2021 and played a central role in its rise as one of the IPL’s most successful sides.
Raina was instrumental in securing four IPL titles for CSK in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021 and also contributed to their Champions League T20 victories in 2010 and 2014. His performance in the 2014 edition, where he scored 234 runs, earned him the Player of the Tournament award. In terms of numbers, Raina remains unmatched in CSK’s history. He scored 5,529 runs in 200 matches, maintaining an average of 33.10, along with two centuries and 38 half-centuries, making him one of the franchise’s most dependable batters over the years.
Matthew Hayden, who represented CSK from 2008 to 2010, also left a lasting impression despite his relatively brief stint. The former Australian opener was part of the team that clinched the IPL title in 2010. A year earlier, he had a standout season, finishing as the highest run-scorer in 2009 with 572 runs and becoming CSK’s first Orange Cap winner. Across his time with the franchise, Hayden scored 1,117 runs, including eight fifties, with a top score of 93.
By introducing the Hall of Fame, CSK have created a formal platform to recognize players who have made exceptional contributions to the team’s journey.
This move not only honors past achievements but also strengthens the bond between the franchise and its supporters.Looking ahead, CSK will open their new season on March 30 against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. After finishing at the bottom of the standings last season, the five-time champions will be eager to turn things around and compete strongly for another title.
