Lucknow: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India for the ICC T-20 World Cup 2024. In this marquee tournament, veteran batsman Rohit Sharma will be seen captaining and star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be his deputy. However, now a shocking news has come out, in which it has been said that Rohit was against Hardik being selected in the team for the World Cup. Let us tell you that Rohit did not play any T20I match for almost a year in 2023 and Hardik captained the team in his place.

Rohit returned to this format in January 2024 through the series against Afghanistan. Earlier it was believed that Hardik would be seen leading the team in the World Cup but at the last moment BCCI handed over the command to Sharma. However, the news that has come out now has shocked everyone. In fact, not only the captain but also chief selector Ajit Agarkar was involved in not selecting Pandya in the T20 World Cup.
Actually, according to a report in Dainik Jagran, Rohit and Agarkar did not want Hardik to be selected in the World Cup team but then somehow he was included in the team. So in this report it has also been claimed that after this mega event the 37 year old can say goodbye to this format of cricket. Apart from this, there is every possibility that after Rohit, Pandya will be seen captaining the team, whereas after Sharma's departure, Hardik can also become the ODI captain. He is presenting his captaincy claim most strongly in white ball cricket.
The star all-rounder captained Gujarat Titans for the first time in IPL 2022 and during this he also made the team champion. In the next season i.e. 2023 also, the team performed well under his captaincy and made it to the finals but had to face defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 31-year-old became a part of Mumbai Indians through a trade in IPL 2024, but this year the team seems to be struggling under his captaincy. So far this season, MI has played a total of 13 matches, in which they have won only 4 matches.
