Delhi: The 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to start from 28 March 2026. The first match of the tournament will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Issue raised in captains meeting

Before the start of the season, an important meeting of the captains of all 10 teams was held in Mumbai, in which IPL officials and match referees were also present.

Review will not happen till 2027

During the meeting, the officials made it clear that no changes will be made in this rule at present.

He clarified that the Impact Player rule will not be reviewed before the end of the IPL 2027 season. That means this rule will continue in its current form for the next two seasons.

What are the impact player rules?

The Impact Player rule was implemented for the first time in IPL 2023. Under this rule, every team names five players before the toss, any one of whom can be fielded at any time during the match.

This change can be made at the beginning of the innings, after the fall of the wicket or at the end of the over. Due to this arrangement, teams get additional strategic options, due to which they can change players according to the circumstances.

Impact on all-rounders

However, there is a continuous debate regarding this rule. Many veteran players and experts believe that this has affected the traditional balance of cricket. Especially questions have been raised on the role of all-rounders, because now teams have got more facility to use different specialist players.

Senior players of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also earlier expressed their objection to this rule.
