Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday announced that young South African batter Dewald Brevis had been ruled out of the side’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Rajasthan Royals on Monday.
“Brevis is out. He had a side injury during training. He is rehabing. Hopefully, won’t be (out) for too long,” head coach Stephen Fleming said.
The injury is the latest setback for the five-time champion, which is already without M.S. Dhoni, who was ruled out for two weeks due to a calf injury.
CSK had signed Brevis for Rs 2.2 crore as an injury replacement for pacer Gurjapneet Singh late last season.
The right-handed batter scored 225 runs at a strike-rate of 180 in the six matches he played for the five-time IPL champion. As a result, the yellow brigade decided to retain him for the 2026 edition.
