A 76-year-old British citizen working with the broadcasting crew in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season was found dead in his room at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai, police said on Tuesday.

The man has been identified as Ian Williams Langford, a British broadcasting engineer who had been in India and staying at the Marine Drive-based property since March 24 for the IPL.

“The IPL Governing Council and all stakeholders involved express their deepest condolences on the untimely demise of Mr.

Ian Williams Langford, a dedicated broadcast engineer, who was an integral part of our broadcast operations. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends back home,” a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India read.

“The IPL is committed to providing all necessary support and assistance to Mr. Langford’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

“The health, safety and overall security of every member involved in the smooth functioning of the IPL continues to remain of utmost importance.”

An accidental death report has reportedly been registered at the Marine Drive Police Station, and further investigation is underway after Langford was found unresponsive in his room by hotel staff.
