Punjab Kings defeated the Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets in a thrilling match of the Indian Premier League 2026. Both teams were in the contest, but Cooper Connolly’s 72 runs sealed the game in PBKS ‘ favor in New Chandigarh. Chasing 163, Punjab were cruising at one stage, but Prasidh Krishna’s three wickets put them under pressure. However, Connolly kept his cool and hit 5 fours and as many sixes, with the last year’s runners-up crossing the finishing line in 19.1 overs. Marco Jansen (9) and Xavier Bartlett (11*) also played crucial innings in the death overs.
Prabhsimran Singh also looked impressive, amassing 37 runs off 24 balls, laced with 4 sixes and 1 four. Captain Shreyas Iyer faced 11 balls for his 18 runs, but he was dismissed after getting hit on his finger.
Earlier, GT innings never gained momentum, with batters struggling to time the ball. Although Jos Buttler accumulated 38 runs, he took 33 balls. Shubman Gill posted 39 runs in 27 deliveries, with the help of 6 boundaries. New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips contributed 25 runs in 17 balls. Vijaykumar Vyshak (3 wickets) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2 wickets) were impressive.

Gujarat Titans slowed down in the middle overs, which was the turning point of the match. After reaching 83 for 1 in 9.3 overs, they put 162/6 in 20 overs. Cooper Connolly’s masterclass also changed the flow of the contest in Punjab’s favor when they were in trouble.
Cooper Connolly was named the Player of the Match for his 72 runs.
Punjab Kings have started the new season with a win, while the Gujarat Titans will not be disheartened, considering their impressive bowling. However, they will have to win the next game to open their points account.
