Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday invited applications for the post of head coach of the Indian men's cricket team for a period of three-and-a-half years, as the tenure of current coach Rahul Dravid ends at the end of next month's ICC T20 in the USA and West Indies. The World Cup will end after 2024.
BCCI said in a release, “The last date for submission of applications is May 27, 2024. The selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessment of shortlisted candidates.” The new coach will take charge of the team from July 1, immediately after the upcoming ICC major tournament and his tenure will end on December 31, 2027.

The Board stipulated that a candidate under the age of 60 must have experience of playing at least 30 Test or 50 ODI matches and the applicant must have played a similar role as a Full Member Test nation for at least two years. Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had said that if Dravid wants to continue in the post even after the T20 World Cup, he will have to apply again.
Shah had recently said, “Rahul Dravid's tenure is coming to an end. If they wish to continue, they will have to apply again. “We are looking for a long-term coach for three years.”
Dravid's contract was extended
It is known that Dravid's two-year contract had ended with the ICC World Cup played in India last year, but in view of the paucity of time for the appointment of a new coach before India's tour of South Africa and the T20 World Cup in America. It was increased.
Now the new coach will also have to handle the transition of Indian batting legend Virat Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma, who are in the last phase of their illustrious careers of 35 and 37 years respectively. It will be very interesting to see whether these two will be a part of the Indian team till ICC World Cup 2027 or not.
