The rift between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya seems to be intense. A sour bond between the captain and vice-captain of the Indian team could prove to be the Indian team’s nemesis in the run-up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, as they attempt to end the trophy drought.
The conflict began when the Mumbai Indians unexpectedly sacked Rohit Sharma as captain and replaced him with Hardik Pandya, who was brought back from Gujarat Titans.
The fans were livid and showed their anger. They mocked and booed Pandya during the ongoing IPL season. This was not the homecoming Pandya expected. Things became worse because of his own performance and MI’s disastrous run.
A Dainik Jagran report claimed that Hardik and Rohit have not practiced together in the ongoing edition. Rohit was a part of net session a night before MI’s loss to KKR. When the Indian captain was on the field, Hardik was nowhere to be seen.
The report goes on to say that after finishing his batting drill, Rohit was sitting with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. However, the moment Hardik entered the ground for the net session, the three of them ignored him and stood up to move to the opposite side of the ground.
Rohit and Hardik have performed poorly and MI’s performance has been affected by that. One of the most popular and successful teams is likely to finish last in the points table. With one game left, MI are currently ranked ninth with just 8 points. Hardik has scored 200 runs at an average of 18. He has picked up 11 wickets, but his economy of 10.59 is a big concern.
