After this victory, on one hand Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was jumping with joy, while on the other hand BCCI imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh on him. What is the reason behind this?Punjab Kings, captained by Shreyas Iyer, was found guilty of slow over rate, which is considered a violation of the IPL code of conduct.
Let us tell you that Shreyas has become the first captain to be found guilty of this crime in the 19th season of IPL. Actually, according to the release issued by IPL, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined for his team maintaining a slow over rate.This match was played against Gujarat Titans at the New International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. This was the team’s first offense under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over rate offences. Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh. Let us tell you that this is not the first time that Iyer has been fined for this crime. Last year, Iyer was punished twice by BCCI for slow over rate. First, a fine of Rs 12 lakh was imposed and then for repeating the mistake, a fine of Rs 24 lakh was imposed.
Punjab Kings team has won its first match of IPL 2026. The team performed well in the match against Gujarat and won by 3 wickets. In this match, Australia’s young all-rounder Cooper Connolly played an excellent inning of 72 runs in 44 balls for the team. On the basis of this innings, Punjab team achieved the target of 163 runs in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, while batting, Gujarat team had scored 162 runs in 20 overs. For Punjab, Vijaykumar Vaishakh bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets, while Yuzvendra Chahal also spent only 28 runs in 4 overs bowling and took 2 wickets.
