The legendary South African player retired from international cricket, having made his debut at the age of 29.

Johannesburg. South African batsman Rassie van der Dussen has announced his retirement from international cricket after not getting a place in the central contract this year.

He said that he will continue playing for his home team Lions.

Van der Dussen, a 37-year-old player from Johannesburg, had not played any match for South Africa since March last year. He made his international debut in 2018 at the age of 29 and played 18 Tests, 71 ODIs and 57 T20 International matches. “It is with great pride and gratitude that I announce my retirement from international cricket,” Van der Dussen said in a statement released on Twitter.

He said that wearing the South African jersey is an achievement that tests your tenacity and dedication and also rewards you for it.

Playing for South Africa has been the biggest honor of my sporting life.

Van der Dussen said that although my journey with the South African national team has come to an end, I will continue to play for my beloved team ‘Lions’. I am committed to contributing to this beautiful game by teaching and guiding the next generation of South African cricketers.

Expressed gratitude to wife and coach

Van der Dussen made his international debut in a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2018 and has since become a player in all formats.

He left his special impact in ODIs. He scored 2657 runs in this format at an average of over 50, which included six centuries and 17 half-centuries. Van der Dussen expressed his gratitude to his coaches, teammates and his wife for supporting him throughout his career. This South African batsman also played in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals in 2022.
