Virat Kohli has returned to the IPL with a bang, delivering a match-winning innings for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The star batter is focused on helping RCB defend their maiden title. Despite taking a break after India’s last ODI in January and spending time with his family in London, Kohli’s form remains unaffected.

The former India captain has faced scrutiny on social media after moving his base to London, with several fans taking jabs at him over the decision.

“People are joking that RCB is fielding five overseas players, but honestly, I don’t really get what they mean,” Kohli said in a video with RCB, as host Danish Sait, in his Mr Nags persona, teased him about the chatter.

“I don’t know, why are you asking me? Ask the actual overseas players. I’m not one. Am I?”

Reflecting on the long journey with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli spoke about the immense relief he felt after finally winning the title in his 18th season with the team.

“I had heard the saying, ‘four years, monkey off the back,’ but that night I truly understood it,” he added.

After dominating all three formats, Kohli spoke about what winning means to him, highlighting how long-term hard work, commitment, and sacrifice finally pay off with a sense of accomplishment.

“Winning is the result of all the hard work, sacrifices, and dedication you’ve put into the sport. It validates your efforts and shows that your time wasn’t wasted. Many learn from losses, but they can also be discouraging. So when you succeed after putting in so much work, it gives a sense of justice to your efforts and motivates you to push even harder,” Kohli mentioned.

He is one of the players to watch out for in IPL 2026.
