The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time champions of the IPL, are preparing for their third match of the 2026 season. After two losses to Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), they are currently placed at the bottom of the points table. With their season hanging in the balance, CSK are eager to secure their first win and get back on track.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson are once again expected to open the batting. Gaikwad displayed promise in the last game but couldn’t capitalise on his early start to produce a significant score. In contrast, Samson has faced difficulties, with both of his performances falling short in CSK’s losses so far. A positive for CSK has been Ayush Mhatre, who scored a brilliant half-century at No. 3. Mhatre’s role will be crucial if the team finds itself in a difficult situation.

New players Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer will be looking to make their mark in their first IPL season. Sarfaraz Khan, who showed signs of improvement in the last match, will be looking to carry that momentum forward. Shivam Dube remains an important asset for CSK in the lower middle order, while England all-rounder Jamie Overton provides both batting depth and vital bowling options.

In the bowling department, Khaleel Ahmed, Noor Ahmad, and Matt Henry are expected to lead the charge. Although Noor has been expensive so far, his ability to turn games around with his spin remains a key weapon. Khaleel and Matt Henry will lead the pace attack, with both players having taken crucial wickets despite conceding runs. Rahul Chahar could be introduced as an Impact Player, offering control with his leg-spin during the middle overs.
