Delhi Capitals (DC) young star Sameer Rizvi has become the talk of the town just at the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). The uncapped Indian batsman has played match-winning knocks in the first two matches for DC, giving them a great start to the tournament.

DC faced LSG in their first game, where they had to chase a low target of 142 runs. However, they came under pressure after losing four wickets in the power play, reeling at 26/4 at one stage.

Rizvi took the responsibility of the chase on his shoulders and slammed an unbeaten 70 runs to propel the team to victory by six wickets.

Similarly, he scored another match-winning half-century in the second game against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Delhi were chasing 163 runs but lost two wickets in the first two overs. Rizvi hammered a spectacular knock of 90 runs to play a pivotal role in the team’s victory by six wickets.

Sanju Samson was traded by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of IPL 2026. According to a report by the Times of India, RR were also in talks with DC to trade Samson. They wished to exchange him with Tristan Stubbs.
However, they also demanded Rizvi alongside Stubbs.

As a result, DC went into the backseat as they didn’t want to part ways with Rizvi. They were ready to lose a powerful batter like Samson to retain the 22-year-old youngster in their squad. Sameer was picked by DC for INR 95 lakh in the IPL 2025 auction and was retained for another season.

Now, Rizvi has showcased his value to his team by scoring match-winning knocks under pressure. He was also adjudged Player of the Match in both encounters. Currently, he is the leading run-scorer in IPL 2026 with 160 runs.
